Bulldog Men's Golf Opens GLIAC Championships In Third Place After Round One
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team opened action in third place overall at the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships following round one action on Friday (April 16) at the Stoatin Brae Golf Club in Augusta, Mich.
The Bulldogs shot a first-round 287 team figure in the opening round and trail only leader Grand Valley State (271) and Saginaw Valley State (285) on the stroke play leaderboard following the first 18 holes of action on the par 71 course measuring 6,742 yards.
FSU's Thomas Hursey shot a 66 in the first round and is third overall after round one and behind only first day leader Drew Coble (64) of GVSU and the Lakers' Nick Krueger (65).
Ferris State's Adam Arif Madzri also had a strong round and shot a one-under par 70, sitting tied for fifth in the field of 50 golfers.
The Bulldogs' Trent Barth is presently tied for 13th overall with a one-over par 73 while Nathan Kraynyk shot a 78 and is tied for 39th in the field. Finally, Joshua Jeffords carded a 79 and is currently tied for 42nd individually.
The 2021 GLIAC Championships continue the format established two years ago with each league school competing in 36 holes of stroke play with a single round per day on both Friday and Saturday. The low four of five scores count towards the respective team score for each squad.
Following round two, the top four teams will advance to head-to-head medal match play on Sunday with a bracket format similar to the current format utilized at the NCAA Championships. The two winning teams following semifinal-round play will advance to the finals in which a GLIAC Champion will be crowned.
Round two action will begin on Saturday (April 17) with tee times beginning at 1 p.m. (ET) on both the #1 and #10 tees at Stoatin Brae Golf Club.
