Ferris State Men's Golf Opens NCAA-II Super Regional Championships In 14th Place Overall

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team opened action in the 2021 Midwest/Central Super Regional on Thursday (May 6) at the Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City, Mo.

The Bulldogs shot a first-round 307 team score at +23 overall in the opening 18 holes of action and currently sit 14th overall in the field entering round two on Friday (May 7). The final round takes place on Saturday (May 8).

Presently, Central Missouri holds the first day lead after carding a 279 (-5) figure in round one with Indianapolis second (283) and Henderson State (Ark.) sitting in third (286). The par 71 course measures 6,943 yards.

The Midwest/Central Regional is being hosted by William Jewell College and consists of eight teams from the Midwest Region along with eight from the Central Region. Three individuals from each region are also competing in the 54-hole tournament.

Ferris State was led in round one by Nathan Kraynyk, who shot a three-over par 74 and is currently tied for 27th in the field. FSU's Thomas Hursey notched a 76 and sits tied for 44th overall.

The Bulldogs' Josh Jeffords fired a 78 in the opening round and is tied for 56th with Adam Arif Madzri tied for 62nd overall with a first-round 79 score. Finally, Trent Barth shot a 83 and is tied for 81st in the field.

At a minimum, the top four teams from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the 2021 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships slated for May 17-21 at PGA National Resort's The Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The finals will be hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. For the 2021 championships, the Midwest/Central Super Regional will be allocated four berths into the D2 National Championships.

This season, the Bulldogs captured their 21st Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship as they beat rival Grand Valley State in head-to-head finals action at the league event.

This year makes this the 18th-straight year in which the Bulldogs have had representation in the NCAA Tournament when it has been held. The 18-year streak of NCAA Championship representation in men's golf ranks as one of the longest active stretches in the country.

The Bulldogs will return to the course on Friday with tee times starting at 10 a.m. (CT) on hole #10.
