Ferris State Men's Golf Finishes 10th At NCAA Super Regional Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team wrapped up action in the 2021 Midwest/Central Super Regional on Saturday (May 8) at the Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City, Mo.

The Bulldogs finished the tournament in 10th place overall with a 893 team score, moving up from 14th place after the opening two rounds of action. FSU shot a 298 figure on Saturday to finish at +41 for the tournament. 

Ferris State opened the tournament with a 307 score on Thursday before firing a 288 on Friday and then 298 figure in the final round on the par 71 course measuring 6,943 yards.

The team champion was Central Missouri, which carded a 847 score to finish at five-under par for the event. Indianapolis took second place (864) followed by Arkansas Tech (866) and Washburn (868) in the top four overall of the 16 competing schools. 

The Bulldogs finished three strokes in front of rival Grand Valley State as the only two competing schools in the field from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Midwest/Central Regional was hosted by William Jewell College and consisted of eight teams from the Midwest Region along with eight from the Central Region. Three individuals from each region also competed in the 54-hole tournament.

Ferris State's Thomas Hursey and Nathan Kraynyk both finished tied for 32nd overall with 221 scores for the 54 holes of action. Hursey shot rounds of 76, 75 and a one-under par 70 on Saturday while Kraynyk had scores of 74, 71 and a closing 76 in the event.

FSU's Adam Arif Madzri came in tied for 41st in the field, shooting a 73 in round three to finish with a 224 figure. He had shot a 79 in round one and a 72 in the second round.

Meanwhile, Trent Barth carded a 232 score for the three rounds and finished tied for 63rd overall with scores of 83, 70 and a final round 79 mark. Finally, Joshua Jeffords shot a 81 in the third round and wound up tied for 84th overall at 245 for the tournament after previously recording scores of 78 and 86.

The top four teams from the regional will advance to the 2021 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships slated for May 17-21 at PGA National Resort's The Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. 

This season, the Bulldogs captured their 21st GLIAC Championship as they beat rival Grand Valley State in head-to-head finals action at the league event.

This year makes this the 18th-straight year in which the Bulldogs have had representation in the NCAA Tournament when it has been held. The 18-year streak of NCAA Championship representation in men's golf ranks as one of the longest active stretches in the country.
