Ferris State Men's Golf Moves Up To Tie For Runner-Up Honors At Bill Blazer Memorial

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team carded the lowest score of the day and moved up four spots to finish tied for second overall as play concluded on Saturday (April 8) at the Bill Blazer Memorial hosted by Ohio Dominican University in Urbana, Ohio.

Ferris State, which had shot a 296 figure in round one play on Friday, came back with a 290 total to finish at 586 overall for the 36 holes of action. The Bulldogs tied for second overall along with Davenport as both teams finished only a single stroke behind champion Wayne State, which finished at 585 overall.

FSU's 290 total on the final day was the best round of the day as the Bulldogs went +2 in Saturday's final 18 holes of competition. A total of 14 teams took part in the event.

Individually, Ferris State's Caleb Bond placed second overall, earning runner-up honors with a two-round 141 figure. He shot a 72 in the first round for even par before firing a tournament low 69 at three-under on Saturday at the Urbana Country Club on the par 72 course measuring 6,757 total yards. He finished a single stroke behind individual medalist Shane Ochs of NCAA Division Wright State.

The Bulldogs' Zach Koerner fired an even-par 72 over the last 18 holes and came in tied for ninth individually at 146 overall following his first-round 74 total on Friday.

Meanwhile, Adam Arif Madzri shot a 148 figure for the two days and wound up tied for 19th on the leaderboard, posting back-to-back scores of 74 each round.

Ferris State's Daniel Shattuck wound up tied for 34th in the field with a 151 score, shooting a round of 76 on opening day followed by a 75 in Saturday's play.

Finally, Mitchell Geik improved his score by four strokes on Saturday, notching an 82 after his first round 86 score to come in 83rd overall with a 168 two-day figure.

The Bulldogs are next slated to compete in the GLIAC Championships set for April 14-16 in Augusta, Mich.
