Bulldog Golf Teams Start Spring Strong At Sacred Heart Spring Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's golf teams opened their spring seasons in strong fashion over the weekend as the Bulldogs competed against NCAA Division I schools at the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational held on Friday and Saturday (March 8-9) at Eagle Harbor Golf Club in Fleming Island, Fla.

The Bulldog men's team placed second overall at 589 for the two rounds of action, finishing +13 overall, while the women's team came in fifth with a 612 teal total or +36 for the 36 holes of action.

FSU was the only non-NCAA Division I school in the eight-team fields.

In the men's action, FSU's Caleb Bond earned a share of second place individually with a 143 score for the two rounds, shooting a 71 in round one and a 72 in the second round. He was followed by McCoy Biagioli in a share of eighth overall on the leaderboard, notching a 69 and a 77 for a total of 146.

Ferris State's Zach Koerner placed tied for 16th along with teammate Sam Have as both shot identical scores of 150 for the two days. Koerner carded a 76 in round one and a 74 in the second round while Havey's scores were flipped, notching a 74 in the first round and a 76 in the final round.

Finally, Nathan Kraynyk wound up tied for 38th as he opened with a 77 and closed with a 79 for a 156 figure. The Bulldogs' Blake Connelly competed as an individual and was tied for 57th on rounds of 87 and 79 for a two-day, 166 score.

In the women's competition, Ferris State's Dani Staskowski placed tied for third on the leaderboard with a 147 total, shooting a 75 in round one and a 72 in the second round. She was followed by Lizzie Anderson in a share of 13th place as she carded a 77 in day one action followed by a 76 for a 153 score.

Next, FSU's Kamryn Shannon placed tied for 16th at 155 on rounds of 76 Friday and 79 Saturday while Hallie Crozier came in tied for 28th. She shot a 75 in the first round and a 84 in the second round for a 159 total.

Meanwhile, Taylor Musselman took a share of 35th place with a 162 score on rounds of 80 and 82 in the first and second 18 holes of action, respectively. Ferris State's Abby Grevel competed as an individual and was tied for 41st in the field with a 165 total as she shot a 83 in the first round followed by an 82 in the second round.

The Bulldog men's team will take part in the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational that will be held in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17. The women will also compete in the SVSU Spring Invite the same two days in Georgetown, Ky.
