Ferris State Golf Teams Finish Near Top At SVSU Spring Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's golf teams wrapped up action in the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational with a pair of strong finishes over the weekend in Kentucky.

The Bulldog women's squad earned runner-up honors at the SVSU Spring Invite that took place on Saturday and Sunday (March 16-17) in Georgetown, Ky. The event was held at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course.

Meanwhile, the men's team came in third overall in the same event with the men's action contested at the Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington.

In the women's competition, Ferris State finished with a 625 team score overall for the two rounds of action and finished 12 strokes behind champion McKendree in the 14-team field.

The Bulldog women were led by Lizzie Anderson, who took fifth place overall with a 153 total over the 36 holes of action. She carded a 76 in the final round. FSU's Dani Staskowski placed tied for 10th with a 156 total and Kamryn Shannon came in tied for 17th along with teammate Hallie Crozier as each shot a 158 over the two days. Finally, Taylor Musselman came in tied for 56th with a 170 finish.

A pair of Bulldogs also competed as individuals with Abby Grevel coming in tied for 48th place (167) and Hope Thebo finishing tied for 56th (170).

In the men's tournament, Ferris State shot a 576 score over the two days. Indianapolis won the event with a 564 while Missouri S&T came in second at 575, only a shot in front of FSU.

The men were led by Caleb Bond in a share of sixth place with a 140 score. Nathan Kraynyk was 10th in the field (142) followed by McCoy Biagioli in a share of 13th place (142) and Zach Koerner in a tie for 52nd overall (144). Finally, Sam Havey placed tied for 65th (152).

Both Shayne Beaufait and Kole Putnam competed as individuals with Beaufait placing tied for 65th (152) and Putnam tying for 96th (156) overall. A total of 21 schools were in the field.

The Bulldog women's team will compete in the Findlay Spring Invite on Monday and Tuesday (March 18-19) while the men are next in action at the Findlay Spring Invite as well on March 25-26.
