Ferris State Hockey Remains Perfect At Home

There's no place like home.   The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team is certainly making an argument about the statement as the Bulldogs improved to 6-0-0 at home this season following a 3-2 win over Bowling Green State this Saturday (Nov. 7) in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) action at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

Ferris State utilized a pair of goals from freshman center Travis Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) and a game-winning short-handed tally by sophomore defenseman Brett Wysopal (LaGrange Park, Ill.) to stay unbeaten within the friendly confines of the Ewigleben Ice Arena this season.  Overall, the Bulldogs are now 7-3-0 this season while posting a 2-2-0-0 CCHA mark. 

Bowling Green State produced the contest's first goal on a power play as Kai Kantola lighted the lamp with his first of the season at 5:20 into the opening stanza off a rebound shot.  But, Ferris State would rally with a pair of goals courtesy of Travis Ouellette in the time remaining to go up 2-1 after 20 minutes of action.  Ouellette scored his fourth of the season at the 8:34 mark after taking a pass from senior right wing Aaron Lewicki (Livonia) and firing a shot from inside the right circle to tie the game. The duo would team up again six minutes later as Lewicki fed up a cross ice pass to Ouellette, who had picked the puck up from along the left side boards and put one into the Falcons' goal near post to give Ferris State the lead.  The marker represented Ouellette's second of the contest and fifth on the season.

The score remained 2-1 until 3:56 remaining in the second period when the Bulldogs, who were down a skater due to a five-minute major penalty, scored short-handed as Brett Wysopal picked up his first goal in a Bulldog uniform.  Wysopal, a transfer from Colorado College, netted what proved to be the game winner as the defenseman put the puck past BGSU goaltender Nick Eno from just outside the right side of the crease.  Aaron Lewicki collected a puck off the boards in the neutral zone and skated into the opposition's zone where he fed a pass over to Wysopal, who deposited the puck into the opposite corner.

Ferris State appeared well on its way to the win but Bowling Green had other ideas as the Falcons converted their second goal with 3:05 left in the game as Tomas Petruska scored for the visitors.  However, the Bulldogs stepped it up defensively and prevented BGSU from scoring the equalizer.

Junior goaltender Pat Nagle (Bloomfield) turned aside 29 stops in securing his third win of this season while netminder Nick Eno registered 36 saves for the Falcons, who were outshot 39-31 in the game.

FSU's penalty kill was effective as the BGSU scored once in eight power-play opportunities and the Bulldogs were unsuccessful in three such chances on the night.

Ferris State will take to the road next weekend, Nov. 13-14, versus nationally top-ranked Miami (Ohio) at Oxford, Ohio.  The two-game CCHA series will begin next Friday (Nov. 13) at 7:35 p.m. (EST) and conclude on Saturday (Nov. 14), starting at 7:05 p.m. (EST) at MU's Steve Cady Arena.
