Zach Redmond and Pat Nagle Receive AHCA All-America Distinction

A fitting tribute to two seniors, Pat Nagle (Bloomfield) and Zach Redmond (Traverse City) of the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team, was paid Friday (April 8) evening as the pair were selected to the 2010-11 American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-America Teams for NCAA Division I.

Nagle earned first-team honors on the West Team while Redmond claimed second-team accolades.  The two 2011 Hobey Baker Memorial Award candidates were among 24 individuals to be recognized on either the East or West Teams as each squad had six individuals on the first team and another six attained second-team accolades. 

The AHCA/Old Time Hockey All-America Ice Hockey Teams are sponsored by Old Time Hockey, an international leader in hockey-themed apparel, and chosen by members of the American Hockey Coaches Association.  The All-America Teams were announced at the 2011 NCAA Men's Division I Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn. 

Nagle and Redmond represent the sixth and seventh Ferris State skaters to receive All-America laurels.  The two join the likes of Chris Kunitz (2002-03), Mike Brown (2002-03), Rob Collins (2001-02), Andy Roach (1995-96 and 1996-97), and John Gruden (1993-94).  With his first-team designation, Nagle represents the fourth Bulldog to claim first-team All-America honors. 

A 2010-11 RBC Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Player of the Year finalist, Nagle garnered both All-CCHA First Team and Ferris State's Most Valuable Player Award kudos this season by compiling an 18-14-5 record with a 2.02 goals-against average (74 goals allowed) and a .923 saves percentage (885 saves) as a starter in all 37 of his outings.  Nagle was chosen as the CCHA's Goaltender of the Week (Nov. 8) and also attained Inside College Hockey.com First-Half All-CCHA Team recognition.

The Ferris State netminder made his mark on a national level this season as evidenced by currently ranking fifth in goals-against average, tied for 10th in shutouts (three), 12th in saves percentage, and 32nd in winning percentage (.554).   

Nagle closed out his four-year (2007-10) Bulldog career with a 45-42-11 record while producing a 2.32 goals-against average and a .916 saves percentage in 101 appearances.  He presently ranks tied for first among Ferris' all-time netminders in save percentage (.916), second in both victories (45) and goals-against average (2.32), third in minutes played (5,801), fourth in saves (2,451), tied for fourth in games played (101), fifth in shutouts (five), and sixth in winning percentage (.515).  Nagle, who inked a two-year deal with the National Hockey League's (NHL) Tampa Bay Lightning, is currently with the team's top affiliate the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Redmond, a 2010-11 All-CCHA First-Team performer, registered a team second-highest 20 points on a career season-best seven goals with 13 assists in 26 contests this season.  The 2010-11 Bulldog team captain led all Ferris defensemen in points, goals, and assists this campaign to go with four power-play markers, three game-winning lamplighters, 41 blocked shots, and a plus three efficiency rating.  The FSU blueliner generated at least a point in 15 games this season, which featured five multiple-point game efforts.

This season, Redmond was chosen as the CCHA's Defenseman of the Week (Jan. 10) and landed a spot on Inside College Hockey.com's First-Half All-CCHA Team.  He was tabbed as a preseason All-America Third-Team selection by Inside College Hockey.com and garnered first-team CCHA Preseason All-Conference plaudits prior to this 2010-11 campaign.  To date, Redmond ranks tied for 41st place nationally in game-winning goals (three).

Redmond concluded his four seasons (2007-11) as a Bulldog with 90 points on 22 goals and 68 assists in 141 contests.  The 2009-10 second-team All-CCHA skater chalked up 12 power-play goals, seven game-winning tallies, one short-handed lamplighter, 217 blocked shots, and a plus 22 efficiency rating.  A 2009-10 MichiganCollegeHockey.com Second-Team honoree, Redmond presently ranking tied for 24th among Ferris State's scoring leaders in assists and is listed 37th in points.  A 2008 seventh-round NHL Entry Draft pick (184th overall) by the Atlanta Thrashers, Redmond recently inked a contract with Atlanta and is currently skating for their top affiliate the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL).   

The pair both played integral roles this season in Ferris State presently leading all NCAA Division I teams in penalty-kill efficiency (88.6) and ranking fifth in scoring defense (2.21 gpg.).

Ferris State closed out the 2010-11 season with an 18-16-5 overall record, which included a fifth-place 12-12-4-3 mark (43 league points) in CCHA action.  The 18 wins posted by the Bulldogs, under head coach Bob Daniels, represented a tie for the eighth-most single-season victories in the program's history.
