Big Rapids, Mich. - Freshman goaltender CJ Motte (St. Clair) recorded his second shutout of the season as the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team concluded its Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) two-game series against the nationally 10th-ranked Miami (Ohio) RedHawks with a sweep by virtue of a 2-0 win on Saturday (Oct. 22) night at the Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids.

With the victory, the 14th-ranked Bulldogs improve to 6-0-0 overall and a perfect 2-0-0 record in the CCHA. The 6-0-0 start marks the school's best start since it's inaugural season in the CCHA during the 1979-80 season when the Bulldogs opened with eight-straight victories. The RedHawks drop to 2-4-0 record and 0-2-0 in conference play.

The physical game did not see a goal in the first period as Ferris State outshot Miami (Ohio) eight to five in the opening stanza.

The Bulldogs' Travis Ouellette(Windsor, Ontario) opened up the scoring at the 11:16 mark of the second period with a power-play goal for his sixth marker of the season. The clean shot in the middle of the Miami zone sailed over the goaltender's right pad. The assists went to freshman forward TJ Schlueter (Lafayette, Ind.) and senior defenseman Chad Billins (Marysville) on the initial goal.

The second goal of the game came from sophomore center Cory Kane (Irvine, Calif.), also on a power-play opportunity. As a pass went from the blue line to the front of the net, Kane was in position to tip the puck in the goal with assists from Billins and sophomore left wing Andy Huff (Howell).

The game was highly physical as evidenced in the 59 penalty minutes the RedHawks racked up on 13 impositions with the Bulldogs garnering 29 minutes in the box on nine penalties. FSU went 2-of-8 in power-play opportunities and held Miami to an 0-of-3 showing in the man–advantage situation.

Motte earned the win in net and improvied his record to 3-0-0 overall. The 2-0 victory marked his second shutout of the season and he faced 27 shots on goal. Motte held off five shots in the first period, 10 in the second and 12 in the third. The shutout earned him the first star of the game.

RedHawk netminder Connor Knapp was unable to stop two of the 20 shots on goal the Bulldogs threw at him as he dropped to 1-2-0 on the season.

The Bulldogs will head on the road this week (Oct. 27-28) as Ferris State will face the nationally top-ranked Michigan Wolverines at Yost Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. The first game on Thursday (Oct. 27) will be televised by Comcast with a start time of 7:35 p.m. (EDT). The puck will drop at 7:35 p.m. for Friday's (Oct. 28) series' finale as well.
