Bulldogs Fall To Wolverines In Series Finale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally sixth-ranked Ferris State University men's ice hockey team suffered a 4-0 loss to the fourth-ranked Michigan Wolverines in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) road series finale on Friday (Oct. 28) evening at Yost Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Wolverines earned the sweep over the Bulldogs in the showdown of top 10 ranked teams on their home ice as they improved to 6-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in CCHA play.  Ferris State fell to 6-2-0 overall and 2-2-0 in league action with Friday's setback coupled with a 5-2 loss in the series opener on Thursday (Oct. 27) night.

Michigan took an early lead in the first period as the Wolverines struck with an even-strength goal at 5:38 of the first period when Alex Guptill found the back of the net off assists from Derek Deblois and Luke Moffatt.

The Wolverines the proceeded to score three times in the second period for the second consecutive night. Michigan capitalized quickly in the stanza by getting back-to-back goals in less than two minutes. Travis Lynch scored first at the 16:40 mark for his fourth goal of the year with assists credited to David Wohlberg and Mac Bennett. The Wolverines then struck again at 14:58 with a goal from AJ Treais, which was his fifth of the campaign and came off feeds by Chris Brown and Phil Di Giuseppe.

Michigan found the back of the net for the final time with 5:40 left in the second period on a shot from Brown for his third marker of the year and assists went to both Di Giuseppe and Treais.

UM's Shawn Hunwick picked up his second victory of the series in net by making and game-high 24 saves, including nine in the opening period.  Freshman CJ Motte took the loss for FSU despite stopping 22 Michigan scoring chances.

The Wolverines outshot FSU 26-24 for the night and had a big second period with 15 shots on goal compared to only six over the same stretch by Ferris State.

The Bulldogs were called for eight penalties totaling 19 minutes while Michigan had 10 penalties for 23 minutes in the contest. However, neither team was able to capitalize on the power play as FSU went 0-for-7 and UM was 0-of-4 on the night.  Five of Ferris State's eight penalties came in the second period for 10 minutes.

The Bulldogs will try to get back on track next week as they remain on the road to face the Bowling Green Falcons on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 4-5) nights in Bowling Green, Ohio.  Opening faceoff both nights is at 7:05 p.m. (ET).
