Bulldogs Unable to Score In 3-0 Loss At WMU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team was swept in a home-and-home series against the Western Michigan Broncos as the Bulldogs dropped a 3- decision on Saturday evening (Dec. 3) in the series' finale at the Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The loss drops FSU to 10-5-1 overall and 6-5-1 in conference play. This marks only the second time this season the Bulldogs have been swept as the first came against Michigan at Yost Ice Arena (10/27-28).

After an uneventful first period featuring no goals and just one penalty, the Broncos got on the board first as Will Kessel scored a powerplay goal at the 4:06 mark of the second period. Then, just 1:52 later, the Broncos scored again on the power play as Dane Walters found the back of the net.

A third-period goal by Dane Walters secured the win for the Broncos.

The first period saw 11 shots from the Bulldogs and 18 from the Broncos. The second period featured only four shots on goal for FSU with Western totaling 14 overall. Attempting to rally in the third, the Bulldogs recorded 10 shots on goal.

Senior defender Brett Wysopal (LaGrange, Ill.) tallied a team-high four shots.

CJ Motte (St. Clair) recorded an outstanding 30 saves in the first two periods and stopped 39 Bronco attempts overall.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend in a home-and-home series against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The conference battle begins Friday (Dec. 9) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids before the two teams head to South Bend, Ind., for Saturday's (Dec. 10) finale.

Fridya's game will feature the annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used stuffed animals to the game and throw it on to the ice after the first Bulldog goal.
