Highlights

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 19th-ranked Ferris State University men's hockey team knocked off nationally fourth-ranked Miami (Ohio) by posting a 3-0 victory inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena on Friday (Nov. 2) night in Big Rapids.

The victory was FSU's fouth in its last five meetings with the RedHawks and FSU now owns a current five-game unbeaten streak versus Miami.

The Bulldogs notched the lone goal of the opening stanza on the power play at 8:24 when freshman defenseman Brandon Anselmini scored his second goal of the season off a pass from junior wing Justin DeMartino, who was credited with the assist.

The score remained at 1-0 in favor of the Bulldogs for the duration of the second period as neither the RedHawks nor the Bulldogs were able to find the back of the net.

However, the Bulldogs added two goals to seal the win in the third and final period.  Sophomore wing Justin Buzzeo tallied his first goal of the season with an impressive shot around Miami goaltender Jay Williams at 7:36 of the frame. Sophomore wing Nate Milam and freshman defenseman Zach Dorer picked up the assists.

Additionally, a little less than four minutes later at 11:11, freshman defenseman Connor Schmidt scored his second goal of the season to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead over the Redhawks that they would not relinquish. Sophomore wing TJ Schlueter earned the assist on the game's final goal.

Bulldog sophomore goaltender CJ Motte played the entire 60 minutes and saved 25 shots in recording the shutout victory. Meanwhile, the RedHawks' Williams made a total of 28 saves. The Bulldogs outshot Miami by a count of 31-25 for the night, which included a game-high 14 shots in the first period.

The contest saw both teams called for seven penalties with the Bulldogs netting 14 minutes in the box and Miami totaling 25 penalty minutes.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-2-2 overall along with 2-1-0 record in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) by earning the victory. The RedHawks dropped to 4-2-1 overall with a record of 1-2-0 in the CCHA.

With the victory, the Bulldogs also narrowed Miami's all-time series' advantage to a single game as the RedHawks own a 44-43-16 edge to date.

This weekend's action marks the final time the Bulldogs and RedHawks will meet as CCHA conference foes in regular-season play. Next season, Ferris State is set to become a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) while Miami will move to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).

The two teams will be back in action at the Ewigleben Ice Arena to play the second game in the series on Saturday (Nov. 3) night. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. (ET).  The contest wraps up a six-game homestand for the Bulldogs as FSU will not play at home again until Nov. 30.
