Bulldog Senior Eric Alexander Signed By ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays

Big Rapids, Mich. - Senior forward Eric Alexander (Kentwood, Mich.), who concluded his Ferris State University men's ice hockey career last week, has been signed by the South Carolina Stingrays, an East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliate of the National Hockey League's (NHL) Boston Bruins.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Alexander, 23, completed his senior season at Ferris State by recording five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 31 games. He helped the Bulldogs received a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) playoff bye for the fourth consecutive year as the squad posted a 16-16-5 overall record along with a fifth-place league regular-season finish before falling at Ohio State in a best-of-three second round playoff series.

In four seasons with the Bulldogs, the Kentwood native totaled 47 points (19 goals, 28 assists) in 124 contests. He was also a member of the Bulldogs' CCHA Regular-Season Championship team in 2011-12 that eventually won the NCAA Midwest Regional crown and reached the national championship game at the 2012 Frozen Four.  Alexander had a career-high 14 points in his junior campaign and was a four-year Bulldog letterwinner.

In the summer of 2011, Alexander also attended the Washington Capitals (NHL) Rookie Development Camp in Arlington, Va. 

Before college, the 6-foot-2, 206-pound forward skated three seasons of junior hockey in the USHL with the Lincoln Stars and Chicago Steel while producing 71 points (40 goals, 31 assists) in 109 games.  He was a two-time Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Dream Team selection at East Kentwood High School before embarking on his junior hockey career.

The Stingrays travel to the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, S.C., on Thursday, March 28, to battle the Greenville Road Warriors at 7 p.m. (ET).  The Stingrays are currently celebrating their 20th season of professional hockey.

Alexander becomes the second Bulldog senior to ink a professional contract as forward Matthew Kirzinger signed an amateur tryout contract (ATO) with the American Hockey League's (AHL) St. John's IceCaps as announced on Friday (March 22) by the franchise's parent club, the Winnipeg Jets, of the NHL.
