Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally seventh-ranked Ferris State University men's ice hockey squad will open defense of its Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Regular-Season Championship and the MacNaughton Cup this weekend as the Bulldogs host the Michigan Tech Huskies on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 24-25) nights to open league action at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Both of this weekend's contests will get underway at 7:07 p.m. (ET) and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance as potential sellout crowds are once again expected. A year ago, FSU sold out both of its home matchups in early January against Michigan Tech, which is expected to be one of the challengers for the league crown along with the Bulldogs this year.

The weekend series will be part of an exciting weekend of action between the two schools with the Bulldog volleyball, football and soccer teams also squaring off against each other either in Big Rapids or Houghton as part of a "Dogs vs. Dogs" weekend.

"We're excited about coming back home to open league play against a very good opponent in Michigan Tech," said FSU head coach Bob Daniels. "We had some very close games against them last year and often times, having a loud and vocal home crowd behind us can make a big difference in a tight series like this."

The Bulldogs are currently ranked seventh this week in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Division I National Rankings along with eighth in the United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) poll. This week marks the 23rd-straight week in which FSU has been listed among the nation's top 10 teams.

Ferris State owns a 2-1 overall record to date this year in regular-season action following a weekend split on a long road trip to face St. Lawrence in Canton, N.Y. FSU previously won its 2014-15 season opener at home against the University of Michigan on Oct. 4 by a 4-3 score before a sellout crowd of 2,532 fans in Big Rapids.

Overall, the Bulldogs have posted 17 sellouts in the last two-plus seasons at the Ewigleben Ice Arena. This weekend's action will also represent the 52nd and 53rd-straight regular-season sellouts for Ferris State's "Dawg Pound" student section as a record number of 685 student season tickets were sold for the 2014-15 season this summer and overall seating is again expected to be at a premium for FSU home contests this year.

Fans can purchase advance tickets for this weekend's action and save over the normal gameday rates by visiting the FSU Athletics Ticket Office located inside the Ewigleben Sports Complex. Bulldog fans can also purchase all regular-priced tickets in advance 24 hours a day, seven days a week online at StarTickets.com or by calling 1-800-585-3737.

Normal business hours are Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (ET) with extended hours on Wednesday's until 7 p.m. (ET).

The Bulldogs are currently 17-0-1 in their last 18 home contests at the Ewigleben Ice Arena dating back to last year and have won six of the last eight meetings versus Michigan Tech heading into this weekend's action. The Huskies are 2-0 overall and in league play entering the weekend and receiving votes in this week's national polls.
