Ferris State Falls To Defending League Champ Bemidji State In Weekend Finale

Bemidji, Minn. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 3-0 to the defending MacNaughton Cup Champion Bemidji State Beavers on Saturday (Oct. 28) in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play at the Sanford Center.

Sophomore goaltender Justin Kapelmaster had a strong showing, making 35 saves on the night.

The Beavers opened the scoring at 18:32 of the second period when Dan Billett held the puck at the point and fired a high shot through traffic from Gerry Fitzgerald and Charlie Combs for a 1-0 BSU lead.

On the power play at 1:38 of the third, Myles Fitzgerald scored his first of two on the night to make it a 2-0 game with assists from Kyle Bauman and Brendan Harris.

Myles Fitzgerald capped the scoring from his brother Gerry at 15:52 of the third for a 3-0 edge.

BSU goaltender Michael Bitzer made 19 saves in a shutout win for Bemidji State. The Beavers outshot the Bulldogs 38-19 for the contest, and went 1-of-5 on the power play. The Bulldogs went 0-of-4 in that regard.

Ferris State returns to non-conference action with a road series at the University of Michigan on Thursday and Friday (Nov. 2-3) with 7:30 p.m. (ET) puck drops scheduled at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor. Thursday's game will be carried on the Big Ten Network.
