Ferris State Hockey Suffers Setback In Weekend Finale At Alaska

Fairbanks, AK. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey squad fell 4-1 to the University of Alaska Nanooks on Saturday (Feb. 3) night as the two teams wrapped up a WCHA weekend series at the Carlson Center.

Ferris State sophomore forward Lucas Finner scored in the game for the Bulldogs while junior goaltender Darren Smith made 28 saves.

Finner opened the scoring with his fourth marker of the year at 1:49 0f the second period on a redirected shot by redshirt sophomore defenseman Zach Yoder (4). Freshman forward Liam MacDougall (3) also assisted on Finner's goal.

The Nanooks evened it on the power play when Troy Van Tetering scored from Kylar Hope and Nikolas Koberstein at 6:49 of the second.

UAF's Colton Leiter scored 26 seconds later for the game-winning goal from Nick Hinz and Zach Frye.

In the third period, the Nanooks picked up a power play insurance marker from Tayler Munson at 5:19, and an empty net goal by Leiter at 19:25 to account for the 4-1 score.

Alaska's Anton Martinsson picked up the win making 18 saves on 19 Bulldog shots, while Smith had 28 on 31 shots.

The Nanooks went 2-5 on the power play while the Bulldogs who had been hot on the man advantage went 0-6.

Ferris State has a week off before they travel to Mankato, Minn., on Feb. 16-17 to take on the nationally top 10 ranked Minnesota State Mavericks at 8:07 p.m. (ET) for both puck drops at the Verizon Wireless Center.
