Ferris State's Mitch Maloney Inks With ECHL's Wichita Thunder

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University men's ice hockey senior Mitch Maloney has signed with the East Coast Hockey League's (ECHL) Wichita Thunder, an affiliate of the National Hockey League's (NHL) Edmonton Oilers.

Maloney led Ferris State in scoring with 25 points on a team-leading 15 goals, to go with 10 assists. Maloney reached career-high's in all of those statistical categories, as well as his team-best shots on goal (98).

There was no more potent goal-scorer in the WCHA – and nearly nationally – in November than Maloney, who lit the lamp nine times in eight games. He scored three more goals than any other WCHA skater in November, while matching Clarkson's Josh Dickinson for the most in the country.

Maloney also registered Ferris State's first hat trick since 2013 in a win over Alabama-Huntsville on Nov. 24.

The Macomb, Mich., native finished his collegiate career with 34 goals and 23 assists for 57 points in 135 games played.

Maloney was a part of the 2016 Broadmoor Championship team that advanced to the NCAA Regional Final in St. Paul, Minn., and scored an NCAA tournament goal in Ferris State's upset of the second overall seeded St. Cloud State Huskies in the first round.
