Bulldog Hockey Drops Series Finale To Huskies In Hard-Fought Tilt

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 4-3 to the Michigan Tech Huskies in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play on Saturday (Nov. 10) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State junior defenseman Nate Kallen picked up a goal and two assists while his partner and freshman Cooper Zech notched three assists in the effort for the Bulldogs.

The Huskies jumped in front at 7:41 of the first when Tommy Parrottino scored from Alex Smith and Gavin Gould for a 1-0 MTU lead.

The next three goals all came from Ferris State as they forged a 3-1 edge in the game. 

At 10:07, sophomore forward Coale Norris ripped a one-timer past MTU goaltender Matt Jurusik for a power play goal, his third tally of the season from Kallen (8) and Zech (4).

Ferris State opened the second frame with a quick goal as Zech dropped a pass for redshirt junior forward Jasen Fernsler, who buried his fourth goal of the season and second of the weekend for a 2-1 Bulldog lead. Zech (5) and Kallen (9) added assists on Fernsler's goal.

Then, at 6:22 of the middle period, the Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-1 when Kallen fired a one-timer from the top of the left circle past Jurusik for his first goal of the season from Zech (6) and sophomore forward Marshall Moise (1).

The Huskies scored three straight goals, first at 9:41 when Jake Lucchini scored his first of two on the night from Seamus Donohue and Alex Smith to cut the Bulldog lead to 3-2 on the power play.

At 10:46, MTU's Dylan Steman tied the game at 3-3 from Donohue and Lucchini, followed by the game-winning from Lucchini at 14:46 of the second period from Trenton Bliss and Steman for the 4-3 final.

In goal, Ferris State freshman Roni Salmenkangas made 29 saves and took the loss, while Robbie Beydoun picked up the win in relief for MTU making four saves.

Ferris State went 2-4 on the man advantage while holding the Huskies to 1-7 on the night. 

The Bulldogs travel to Mankato to take on the Minnesota State Mavericks on Friday (Nov. 16) night to begin a two-game WCHA weekend series at the Verizon Wireless Center.
