Ferris State To Honor Fall Standout All-Americans & Coaches At Hockey Game On Saturday Night

Big Rapids, Mich. – Ferris State University fans are invited to come out and help honor standout athletes and coaches from a highly-successful fall season this Saturday (Feb. 2) night as the Bulldog men's ice hockey team hosts Lake Superior State inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

This Saturday evening, FSU will honor the fall individual All-Americans, Coaches of the Year along with Harlon Hill winner Jayru Campbell of Ferris State Football during the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) contest. Several coaches will be honored during the first period media stoppages while the All-Americans will be introduced and announced at the first intermission.

Campbell will open the ceremonies with a ceremonial puck drop on Saturday night prior to the 7:07 p.m. (ET) puck drop. The winner of the Harlon Hill Trophy awarded annually to the NCAA Division II Football National Player of the Year, Campbell brought the Harlon Hill back to Big Rapids for the third time in five years, joining two-time recipient Jason Vander Laan (2014, 2015) as the second winner of the award in school history.

The Bulldog football squad finished with five All-Americans who will also honored as well including senior left tackle Devon Johnson, senior guard Nic Sawyer, junior defensive end Austin Edwards and junior defensive back Delon Stephenson in addition to Campbell. Head Coach Tony Annese will also be recognized for winning Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) coach of the Year as well as the Hero Sports National Coach of the Year award.

Annese led the Bulldogs to their first National Championship game in school history, a school-record 15 wins and a GLIAC Championship in 2018.

Ferris State women's volleyball will have two All-America honorees recognized, including junior outside hitter Allyson Cappel, who became only the second Bulldog in school history to earn All-America honors three different years, in addition to sophomore outside hitter Katie O'Connell.

Meanwhile, Bulldog head coach Tia Brandel Wilhelm will also be honored for winning GLIAC Coach of the Year kudos for the sixth time in her career after leading the Bulldogs to a 16-0 conference record and the first perfect GLIAC mark since 1990 for Ferris State. The Bulldogs won both their fifth consecutive GLIAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships in the fall.

Also slated to be recognized will be the Bulldog women's soccer coaching staff, which was honored as the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Association Regional Staff of the Year. Head coach Andy McCaslin and his staff was the Midwest Region's recipient at the NCAA Division II level following a NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen finish. FSU reached the national tournament for the first time in school history and won its first two games in a historic campaign.

Finally, the Bulldogs will also honor junior women's cross country standout Katie Etelamaki, who earned All-America honors at the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championships. She placed 16th overall in the women's 6K event as she clocked 23:07.4 in earning All-America laurels.
