Ferris State Battles To Deadlock In Series' Finale In Anchorage

Anchorage, AK - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fought to a 1-1 tie against the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play with the Seawolves gaining the extra point with a three-on-three overtime goal on Saturday (Feb. 16) night at the Sullivan Center.

Ferris State freshman goaltender Roni Salmenkangas turned in his second consecutive strong start, making 26 stops on 27 shots faced in the game.

The Seawolves jumped in front 1-0 at 3:45 when a backhand clearing attempt took a trick hop and landed on the tape of Nicolas Erb-Ekholm, who stood wide open in front of the Bulldog net where he finished it for a UAA unassisted goal.

The Bulldogs scored the game-tying goal at 6:09 of the opening frame when Craig Pefley picked up his third of the year, deflecting in a shot by junior defenseman Joe Rutkowski (5), with the secondary assist going to sophomore forward Coale Norris (9).

Norris established a new career-high in assists on Pefley's goal for Ferris State.

Ferris State charged late in regulation, outshooting the Seawolves 8-3 in the third, but the game went through 65 minutes without a result.

Following the tie, the Seawolves won the fifth session at 1:01 of the three-on-three overtime when Jonah Renouf slide a shot past Salmenkangas for the extra WCHA point.

The Seawolves led 27-26 in shots on goal for the game. The Bulldogs held the Seawolves' power play off the board all four attempts, while Ferris State went 0-2 on the man advantage.

Ferris State had pulled out a 2-1 win in the series' opener on Friday night in Anchorage.
