Ferris State Falls To Alabama-Huntsville In Tightly-Contested Weekend Opener Despite Late Charge


Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team put on a late barrage of shots, but fell 2-0 to the Alabama Huntsville Chargers on Friday (Feb. 22) at Ewigleben Ice Arena in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play.

For the Bulldogs, freshman netminder Roni Salmenkangas allowed just one goal for the third straight outing, making 24 stops in the process as the Chargers batted in a late empty net goal.

The Chargers scored the game winning goal at 6:44 of the first period when Drew Lennon fired in a wrist shot for a 1-0 Charger lead. The Chargers made it 2-0 with an empty net goal at 19:56 of the third period by Bauer Neudecker.

Ferris State finished with a 35-26 advantage in shots on goa, but were stifled by Charger shotblockers and goaltender Mark Sinclair, who made 35 saves in the win for UAH.

Both teams finished 0-1 on the power play with both coming in the final 22 minutes of regulation.

The Bulldog wrap the weekend series with the Chargers on Saturday night (Feb. 23) inside the Ewigleben Ice Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. (ET).

Ferris State will honor six seniors on Saturday evening prior to the contest as part of "Senior Night" festivities and fans are encouraged to arrive early with the ceremony slated to begin 20 minutes prior to puck drop.
