Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with the Waterloo Warriors (Canada) in exhibition play on Sunday (Oct. 6) at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State finished with a large advantage in shots on goal at 47-20, including 16 on the power play.

The Bulldogs surged in front at 15:11 of the opening frame when Ferris State junior forward Liam MacDougall picked off a pass in the neutral zone and sprung fellow junior forward Marshall Moise on a break. Moise dropped a pass to MacDougall, who fed sophomore forward Jake Transit in front of the goal. Transit slid a soft pass across the crease that Moise buried through the legs of Waterloo net minder Julian Sime, giving FSU a 1-0 lead.

Midway through the second period, Waterloo answered when Andrew Cordssen-David finished a one-time shot past Ferris State sophomore goaltender Roni Salmenkangas to even the score at 1-1 with assists from Connor Love and Cam Nicoll.

In the third period, Waterloo fought in front on a shorthanded goal by Nicoll to take a 2-1 lead. Michael Siddall picked up the assist on Nicoll's goal.

However, at the end of the same Bulldog power play, Ferris State evened the score when freshman defenseman Jake Willets pulled a puck off the glass and finessed his way to the middle of the ice and fired a shot to the top right corner to even the contest at 13:21 of the third period. Fellow freshman defenseman Blake Evennou picked up the assist on the Willets goal.

Near the end of regulation, Ferris State sophomore defenseman Justin Smith tied up Waterloo's Michael Scanlan on a breakaway, awarding Waterloo a penalty shot.  Ferris State freshman netminder Carter McPhail, playing in relief of Salmenkangas, made the stop on the ensuing penalty shot.

Neither side could find a third tally, settling the game into a 2-2 tie. Ferris State finished 0-8 on the power play, but held Waterloo 0-4.

In goal for Ferris State, Salmenkangas made 11 stops in 34:18 and McPhail made seven in 30:42 on ice in relief. For Waterloo, Trevor Martin made 23 stops in relief of Sime, who totaled 22 stops.
