Big Rapids, Mich. - Four goals in the first 10 minutes and 18 seconds boosted Ferris State University men's ice hockey past the USA National Team Development Program (NTDP) Under 18 squad 5-0 on Tuesday (Oct. 8) in exhibition play at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State split the goaltenders and got a 25-save combined shutout from freshman Carter McPhail, who played the first 40 minutes and made 19 stops and had an assist, and sophomore Roni Salmenkangas, who made six stops in relief in the third period.

The Bulldogs wasted no time jumping in front, as junior forward Marshall Moise let loose a missile for the top right corner which out-muscled an NTDP defenseman for a 1-0 lead at 54 seconds of the first. Redshirt senior defenseman Zach Yoder and sophomore forward Jake Transit picked up assists on Moise's second goal of the preseason.

Soon after, at 4:16, freshmen forward Dallas Tulik and Cade Kowalski connected to push the lead to 2-0 in FSU's favor. Tulik got behind the USA goal and bodied a man off the puck and centered a pass to Kowalski, who fired it past USA goaltender Drew Commesso in front of the goal. Sophomore forward Justin Michaelian also had an assist on Kowalski's goal.

For USA, Commesso's night ended at 9:04 of the first when Ferris State junior forward Lucas Finner banged in a rebound chance after younger brother and freshman defenseman Max Finner fired a low shot on goal from the blue line. Max Finner picked up the lone assist on Lucas Finner's goal, making it 3-0 for the Bulldogs.

USA NTDP swapped netminders and Noah Grannan was greeted by a Bulldog goal on the first shot he saw 1:14 into his time in goal at 10:18 of the first. Junior forward Liam MacDougall out-waited Grannan and slid a low shot inside the left goal post to push the margin to 4-0 from Transit and McPhail.

Ferris State took a 4-0 lead to the locker room through 20 minutes of play and added to it at 11:04 of the second period when sophomore forward Hunter Wendt got behind the USA goal and fired a shot from behind the net off of Grannan, who had spun around and came out of the goal. The shot hit Grannan and bounced back into the USA goal. Junior forwards Coale Norris and Lucas Finner picked up assists on Wendt's goal, which made it 5-0.

The Bulldogs held USA 0-5 on the power play for the game, but went 0-6 on the man advantage themselves. USA had a 25-23 shots on goal advantage.

A total of 11 different Bulldogs finished with at least a point in the contest that featured five different goal scorers.
