Ferris State Battles Back But Falls On Road To Western Michigan On Friday

Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team erased a pair of one-goal deficits but fell to the Western Michigan Broncos on Friday (Nov. 8) at Lawson Ice Arena 4-2 in non-conference play.

Ferris State freshman defenseman Jake Willets continued his hot start with his eighth point in eight games.

The Broncos got in front at 12:28 of the first period when Hugh McGing scored off a face-off for a 1-0 WMU lead.

Early in the second period, Ferris State sophomore forward Justin Michaelian roped a shot through traffic for his first goal of the year from Willets (8) to even the score at 1-1.

WMU pushed the Broncos back in front when Paul Washe finished a chance at the goal line for a 2-1 Western Michigan lead.

Ferris State evened the score at 15:20 of the second frame on the power play when sophomore forward Jake Transit scored his third goal of the season from freshman defenseman Connor Fedorek (2) and freshman forward Dallas Tulik (2) on a long shot through traffic inside the right goal post.

The Broncos picked up the go-ahead goal at 11:12 of the third period on the five-on-three power play when Ronnie Attard took a slap shot that beat Bulldog senior goaltender Austin Shaw high for the 3-2 Bronco lead.

Western Michigan added an insurance marker when Austin Rueschhoff scored for the 4-2 Bronco lead.

For Ferris State, Shaw made 25 saves in goal in his Bulldog debut. Bronco goaltender Brandon Bussi made 21 saves for WMU.

Ferris State continued their power play success scoring once on five attempts. Western Michigan finished 1-7 on the man-advantage.
