Ferris State Falls To Western Michigan At Home Saturday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 8-2 to the Western Michigan Broncos at Ewigleben Ice Arena on Saturday (Nov. 9)

For Ferris State, senior defenseman Zach Yoder finished with a pair of assists in the game.

Western Michigan got in front at 3:23 when Lawton Courtnall opened the scoring for the Broncos for a 1-0 lead.

Ferris State evened the score at 1-1 when senior forward Dominic Lutz scored his first goal fo the year on a sharp angle shot at 13:52 of the opening frame.

The Broncos took over in the second period. Austin Rueschhoff scored at 1:58, followed by Rhett Kingston at 3:19 and Kale Bennett at 3:47. Dawson DiPietro added to the WMU lead at 12:01, followed by Kingston's second at 13:05. Courtnall added his second at 14:42 of the second period. Kingston capped the scoring on the power play at 9:04 of the third period.

Ferris State scored again at 18:00 of the third when freshman forward Dallas Tulik scored his third goal of the season on a tip in front of Bronco goaltender Brandon Bussi. Freshman defenseman Max Finner picked up his first collegiate point, an assist, on Tulik's goal. Yoder added his second of the game and fourth of the year.

For the Bulldogs, sophomore goaltender Roni Salmenkangas took the loss, making 13 stops. Freshman goaltender Carter McPhail made 12 in relief in the third period for Ferris State. Bussi made 14 stops in the win for Western Michigan. The Bulldogs went 0-3 on the power play, while the Broncos went 1-3.
