Bulldogs Battle From Behind To Earn Tie With Chargers

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team battled from behind to earn a 2-2 tie against the Alabama Huntsville Chargers on Friday (Dec. 13) in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play inside Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State junior forward Marshall Moise returned to the line up and scored twice to pace the Bulldogs in the contest.

The Chargers earned the extra WCHA point by virtue of a three-on-three overtime point, as Ferris State picked up their second one-point tie effort in a row.

Alabama Huntsville got out to a 2-0 lead quickly in the first period. Josh Latta scored  at 2:24 followed by Connor Merkley at 14:06.

Ferris State began mounting the comeback at the end of a period when they outshot the Chargers 19-5. 

At 19:24 of the second frame, senior forward Dominic Lutz centered a pass out in front of the goal that Moise fired inside the left goal post to cut the UAH lead to 2-1. The goal was Moise's fourth of the season, while Lutz picked up his first assist. Senior defenseman Nate Kallen earned his sixth assist of the year on the goal.

Ferris State struck to even the contest at 15:15 of the third period when freshman forward Dallas Tulik stripped a puck away from a Charger defenseman and turned the puck up high to Moise who fired a high changeup on goal that beat UAH goaltender Mark Sinclair high to the stick side. Tulik picked up his third assist of the year as Moise picked up his fifth goal of the season and second of the game.

In the extra overtime frame, Liam Izyk picked up the winner at 1:48 to pick up the extra WCHA point for the Chargers.

In goal, Sinclair made 38 saves for the Chargers while Ferris State senior goaltender Austin Shaw made 24 for the Bulldogs. Both squads finished 0-2 on the man advantage for the game. Ferris State had a 40-26 lead in shots on goal for the game.

The Bulldogs take on the Chargers in the series finale on Saturday at 7:37 pm ET inside Ewigleben Ice Arena. It will be the Bulldogs' annual Teddy Bear Toss night. For tickets and additional information, please visit FerrisStateBulldogs.com.
