Bulldogs Carry Play But Fall To Nanooks At Home

Big Rapids, Mich. - Despite a large lead in shots on goal, the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 2-0 to the Alaska Nanooks on Friday (Jan. 17) inside Ewigleben Ice Arena in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play.

Ferris State senior goalie Austin Shaw made 17 stops, and allowed just one goal.

The Nanooks scored the eventual game-winning goal at 13:34 of the second period on the power play when Steven Jandric scored on a low shot from the left wing circle. 

Ferris State battled hard in the third period, outshooting the Nanooks 12-5 in the final frame, including an 8-0 stretch over a five minute period in which the Bulldogs had the ice tilted, but could not solve UAF goaltender Anton Martinsson, who pitched a 34 save shutout for the Nanooks.

Alaska picked up an empty net goal when Tyler Cline scored at 19:43 of the third period for the 2-0 final.

Ferris State held a 34-19 edge in shots on goal with a 12-4 advantage in the first period and 12-5 in the third period. Ferris State went 0-5 on the power play while Alaska went 1-4 on the man advantage.
