Ferris State Makes Late Push But Falls Shy At No. 15 Northern Michigan

Marquette, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 5-2 to the nationally #15 ranked Northern Michigan Wildcats on Saturday (Feb. 1) at the Berry Events Center in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play.

Ferris State sophomore forward Hunter Wendt picked up a pair of assists in the contest for the Bulldogs. 

Northern Michigan jumped in front at 16:39 of the first period when Andre Ghantous finished from the bottom of the left wing circle for a 1-0 NMU lead.

The Bulldogs evened the contest at 17:25 when freshman forward Dallas Tulik scored his fourth goal of the season on a rebound. Wendt (4) and freshman defenseman Max Finner (2) picked up assists on Tulik's goal.

In the second period, the Wildcats scored three straight goals. Joseph Nardi tallied at 4:37, followed by Brandon Schultz at 6:40 and Luke Voltin on the power play at 12:20.

Ferris State picked up an early third period goal when junior forward Coale Norris scored his sixth of the year, finishing on a two-on-one rush with Wendt, who earned his fifth assist of the season on the play at 6:46 of the third period.

The Wildcats scored at 15:16 when Caleb Schroer finished on a rush down the right wing wall after the Bulldogs had a flurry of chances.

Northern Michigan had a 38-33 shots on goal advantage for the game. The Bulldogs finished 0-3 on the power play, while Northern Michigan scored once on two chances. In goal, Ferris State sophomore goaltender Roni Salmekangas made 33 stops, while NMU goaltender Nolan Kent made 31 saves.

Ferris State returns to action against the Michigan Tech Huskies on Friday (Feb. 14) against the Michigan Tech Huskies at 7:07 pm ET at Ewigleben Ice Arena.
