Bulldogs Fall At Home To Lake Superior State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 5-0 to the Lake Superior State Lakers in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play on Friday (Feb. 28) inside Ewigleben Ice Arena.

The Lakers took the lead at 9:26 of the first period when Brayden Gelsinger scored on a rush down the left side. With 18 seconds remaining in the opening stanza, Ashton Calder gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead.

In the second frame, Will Riedell gave the Lakers a 3-0 lead on a rush down the left lane before Brendan McKay scored a shorthanded goal at 18:54 to send the Lakers to the locker room leading 4-0.

In the third period, the Lakers picked up a goal at 14:13 when Pete Veillette scored to cap the Laker offensive at 5-0.

Ferris State sophomore goaltender Roni Salmenkangas made 20 stops in the game while Lake Superior State goaltender Mareks Mitens made 21 stops in the win for the Lakers.

With the loss, Ferris State has been mathematically eliminated from WCHA post season contention.

Ferris State will celebrate seven seniors prior to tomorrow night's hockey game for Senior Night as Cameron Clarke, Zach Yoder, Joe Rutkowski, Nate Kallen, Jason Tackett, Dominic Lutz and Austin Shaw will be honored prior to the contest.

Ferris State will wrap their season Saturday (Feb. 29) inside Ewigleben Ice Arena at 6:07 pm ET against Lake Superior State.
