Eleven Bulldogs Named To WCHA All-Academic Team

Big Rapids, Mich. - A total of 11 Ferris State Hockey players were named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's (WCHA) All-Academic team for the 2019-20 season.

Though freshmen are not eligible for All-Academic status, which make up nearly half of Ferris State's roster, the Bulldogs remained in the double-digits in All-Academic performers.

Seniors Cameron Clarke, Dominic Lutz, Zach Yoder, Nate Kallen, Jason Tackett and Joe Rutkowski, junior Coale Norris, along with sophomores Justin Michaelian, Roni Salmenkangas, Ethan Stewart and Hunter Wendt were all named to the All-Academic team.

To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have completed one year of eligibility at his present institution prior to the current academic year with a grade point average of 3.0 or above for the prior two semesters or three quarters, or may qualify if his overall GPA is 3.0 or better for all terms at his present institution.

Earlier this year, eight of those 11 players were named Scholar-Athletes, representing one of the highest percentages in the WCHA of players named to both teams. Rutkowski, Yoder and Lutz each achieved the honor for their third time, with Clarke garnering his second. Kallen, Michaelian, Norris and Salmenkangas each picked up their first Scholar-Athlete awards in the process.

To earn recognition as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete award, conference-member student-athletes must have completed at least one year of residency at their present institution prior to the current academic year and must also have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the previous two semesters or three quarters. A candidate may also qualify if his overall GPA is at least 3.50 for all terms at his present institution.
