Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 6-2 to the nationally 16th-ranked Bowling Green Falcons on Saturday (Dec. 12) in non-conference action at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State junior forward Ethan Stewart and freshman forward Mitch Deelstra each netted their first collegiate goals in the contest.

The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead on goals by Max Johnson (11:03, 1P), Alex Barber (4:59, 2P) and Cameron Wright (11:24, 2P) before the Bulldogs answered.

In the second period, at 13:38 of the middle frame, sophomore forward Jason Brancheau tucked a pass down low to Stewart, who swung around in front and lifted a shot past Bowling Green netminder Eric Dop for his first collegiate goal. Brancheau picked up his first assist of the year while freshman defenseman Drew Cooper earned his first collegiate point with the secondary assist.

Bowling Green replied at 4:20 of the third period on Wright's second goal of the night to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead, but 21 seconds later, FSU's Deelstra streaked down the slot and fired a backhander past Dop for his first collegiate goal. Sophomore defenseman Connor Fedorek (1) and senior forward Liam MacDougall (1) earned the helpers on Deelstra's goal.

Despite the response and cutting the Falcons' lead back to two, BGSU scored another pair when Connor Ford scored at 6:18 of the third followed by Seth Fyten at 8:46.

Bowling Green held a 43-27 shots on goal advantage, though Ferris State managed to hold the Falcons 0-5 on the power play. The Bulldogs went 1-3 on the man advantage.

In goal, Ferris State junior goaltender Roni Salmenkangas made 21 stops on 23 shots on goal before a planned goaltender switch. Sophomore goaltender Carter McPhail made 16 saves and allowed four goals in relief.

BGSU's Dop picked up the win with 25 saves for the Falcons.

Ferris State next travels to take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats at the Berry Events Center on Wednesday (Dec. 16) at 6:07 pm ET.
