Bulldogs Fall To #20 Lakers In Strong Outing By Stein

Sault Ste. Marie - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team battled, but fell 2-1 to the nationally #20-ranked Lake Superior State Lakers on Saturday (March 6) at Taffy Abel Arena in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play.

Ferris State freshman goaltender Logan Stein made 40 stops in his best save percentage start of his collegiate career.

The Lakers jumped in front at 13:38 of the opening frame when Pete Veillette tapped one in from the bottom of the left circle.

Ferris State evened the scored when freshman forward Antonio Venuto hammered in a feed from below the goal line for his third goal of the year at 5:12 of the second period. Sophomore forward Dallas Tulik (2) and sophomore defenseman Blake Evennou (9) picked up the helpers on the play.

Lake Superior State scored on the power play at 15:51 of the second period for a 2-1 lead when Will Riedell fired in his fifth of the year. 

The Bulldogs piled on late attempts, but could not crack LSSU goaltender Mareks Mitens a second time.

For the Bulldogs in goal, Stein's .952 save percentage was his best single-game outing of the year with 40 saves.

Ferris State went 0-1 on the power play while Lake Superior State went 1-3. Mitens made 16 saves in the win for the Lakers. 

The contest marked the regular-season finale for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State takes on first-place and top-seeded Minnesota State in the WCHA Playoff Quarterfinals with game one of the best-of-three series set for Friday, March 11, at 7:07 p.m. (ET) in Mankato, Minn.
