Mendota Heights, Minn. - A third period rally and overtime effort gave the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team two Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) points and a 2-1 win over the St. Thomas Tommies on Friday (Oct. 22) at St. Thomas Arena.

Ferris State sophomore goaltender Logan Stein was sharp, making 25 stops for the victory in goal, while senior captain and forward Liam MacDougall netted the overtime winner.

In a penalty-filled game that featured 38 penalty minutes, Ferris State had to battle from behind, but put on an impressive penalty-killing display. Ferris State held the Tommies' vaunted power play 0-7 on the night, including an entire five-minute major kill.

The Tommies jumped in front at 12:03 of the second when Trevor Zins finished a one-timer for a 1-0 UST lead.

In the third period, an early power play sprung Ferris State back even at 1-1. At the point, junior defenseman Brenden Rons blasted a one timer past UST goaltender Peter Thome for his first goal of the season at 4:31 of the third period. sophomore forward Stepan Pokorny (4) and junior defenseman Blake Evennou (2) picked up the helpers on the play.

In overtime, senior forward and captain Ethan Stewart dished a pick to the middle of the ice where MacDougall was waiting. MacDougall drew a hard toe-drag to the middle and ripped the game-winner under Thome's glove at 1:11 of overtime for his first goal of the year. Stewart picked up his first assist of the season.

The shots finished even at 26-26, while Ferris State had a 19-15 advantage in the last 41:11 of play. Stein picked up the win on 25 saves for the Bulldogs while Thome took the loss with 24 stops for the Tommies.

Ferris State's power play finished 1-6 on the night, but its penalty kill went 7-7. Ferris State is 100 percent (12-12) on its penalty kill in the last two games.

The Bulldogs are back in action against the Tommies at 8:07 p.m. (ET) on Saturday (Oct. 23) looking for their first CCHA sweep.
