Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team used a two-goal third period to beat the Lake Superior State Lakers 3-1 Saturday (Dec. 4) inside Ewigleben Ice Arena in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) action.

Ferris State sophomore goaltender Logan Stein turned aside 25 Laker shots in a strong outing while FSU senior forwards Ethan Stewart and Jake Transit delivered multi-point nights for the Dawgs.

The Lakers got in front at 8:26 of the opening frame when Dustin Manz scored on the power play, capitalizing on a failed clearing attempt for a 1-0 Laker lead.

From there, it was all Bulldogs on the board. Ferris State snapped LSSU goaltender Ethan Langenegger's shutout at 14:23 of the second period when Stewart buried a rebound for his fourth goal of the year. Sophomore forward Antonio Venuto (1) and Transit (4) earned the helpers on the play.

Early in the third period Ferris State took a 2-1 lead when senior forward Justin Michaelian ripped a shot top right off a Bulldog faceoff win at 1:56 of the final frame for his fourth goal of the year and the eventual game-winner. Sophomore forward Stepan Pokorny (7) earned the assist on the goal.

Minutes later, Transit finished off a slick play when Stewart (3) busted in on a breakaway, dropped the puck back from the right side of the goal to the top of the crease through the legs of LSSU defenseman Jacob Nordqvist where Transit punched it in at 5:19 for a 3-1 Bulldog lead. Sophomore forward Antonio Venuto (2) picked up his second point of the night on the play.

The Bulldogs managed to fend off the Lakers, who pulled the goaltender for the final 2:57 of regulation. A final chance by LSSU was staved off by Stein who lept to his right falling sideways to body a one-timer into the corner and out of harm's way.

Ferris State did not attempt a power play on the night while Lake Superior State went 1-2. Ferris State won the shots on goal battle 29-26. For Ferris State, Stein's 25 save-win was his second best save percentage on the year, while Ethan Langenegger took the loss making 26 saves for the Lakers.

The Bulldogs head south to wrap their 2021 slate with a series at Bowling Green on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 10-11) against the Falcons at the Slater Family Ice Arena. Both puck drops are set for 7:07 pm ET.
