Bulldogs Fall To #1 Minnesota State Mavericks On The Road

Mankato, MN - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 7-1 to the nationally #1 ranked Minnesota State Mavericks on Friday (Jan. 7) at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) action.

Ferris State freshman forward Bradley Marek scored his sixth goal of the season in the contest for the Bulldogs.

The Mavericks scored three goals in the first period to take a 3-0 lead. Wyatt Aamodt scored at 3:33 followed by Ondrej Pavel on a deflection at 4:51. Josh Groll scored on a tipped shot at 9:30 of the opening frame for the 3-0 lead.

Midway through the second period, Julian Napravnik made it 4-0 MSU at 12:04 of the period on the power play on a one-timer from the bottom of the right circle.

Ferris State got on the board when Marek punched in a rebounded shot to cut the MSU lead to 4-1 on the power play. Senior forward Marshall Moise (3) and senior defenseman Brendon Michaelian (7) earned the assists on the play at 14:08 of the middle frame.

Minnesota State replied with three third period goals. Nathan Smith scored at 3:53, followed by a pair from Wyatt Aamodt at 6:05 and 17:55 for the hat trick and 7-1 final.

The Mavericks held a 29-17 shots on goal advantage. Ferris State went 100 percent on the power play on a 1-1 night, while Minnesota State went 1-3.

In goal, Ferrris State sophomore Logan Stein made 22 stops on the night in the loss. Minnesota State's Dryden McKay made 16 stops for the Maverick win.

Ferris State looks to turn in a road upset at 7:07 pm ET on Saturday (Jan. 8) at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
