#1 Mavericks Take Weekend Series Over Ferris State

Mankato, MN. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 7-0 to the nation's #1 ranked Minnesota State Mavericks Saturday (Jan. 8) in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) action at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.

After a strong first period in goal for Ferris State freshman goaltender Noah Giesbrecht, who made 18 stops in the opening frame, the Mavericks used a big second period to beat the Bulldogs.

First, at 13 seconds, Julian Napravnik gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. They followed it up with goals by Sam Morton (1:38), Josh Groll (1:50) and Zach Krajnik (2:39) for a 4-0 lead.

The Mavericks netted a power play goal at 11:06 of the second frame for a 5-0 lead when Napravnik scored his second of the night, and capped second period scoring when Nathan Smith scored at 14:42 for the 6-0 lead.

In the third period, the Mavericks made it 7-0 at 11:59 of the third period when Krajnik scored on a wraparound.

Minnesota State finished 1-2 on the power play while Ferris State went 1-2.

In his collegiate debut, Giesbrecht made 37 saves for Ferris State. Dryden McKay made 17 for the shutout for the Mavericks.
