Bulldog Alum Billins Helps HV71 To Swedish Title

Jönköping, Sweden - Ferris State Hockey alum Chad Billins helped HV71 to the Hockey Allsvenskan Championship with a 3-2 double overtime victory over Björklöven.

Hockey Allsvenskan is Sweden's second league, and the Champion moves up to the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) one of the world's top professional leagues outside of the National Hockey League (NHL). 

In 52 games for HV71, Billins scored eight goals and added 35 assists for 43 points. In the SHL Qualifier tournament Billins had 13 points on six goals and seven assists. 

Since leaving Ferris State, Billins has had a decorated and well-traveled professional career. He's played in 10 NHL games, and hundreds in all of the leagues considered best outside of the NHL in the American Hockey League (AHL) the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) and The German centered Deutschland Eishockey League (DEL). 

His professional career has spanned 529 games on two continents as well as a trip to the Olympic Games for the United States of America.

At Ferris State, he played in 149 games with 67 points on the blue line, helping Ferris State to the 2012 Frozen Four and National Championship Game. He was an All-American for the Bulldogs during the 2011-12 season.

Billins was named to the 2010-2020 All-Decade Team as a first-teamer in January, 2020. The 32 year old has spent most of the last eight seasons in Sweden with one 72 game return to join the AHL's Utica Comets (Vancouver Canucks affiliate) in 2016-17.
