Ferris State Hockey Names Travis Shoudy Team Captain for 2024-25 Season

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team has announced that defenseman Travis Shoudy will serve as the squad's captain for the 2024-25 season.

Going into his junior season next year, Shoudy (Marysville, Mich.) will wear the captain's patch for the first time in his Bulldog career. He will don the captain's patch following a two year stint from defenseman Brenden MacLaren as the Bulldog captain. Matt Slick was a co-captain with MacLaren in 2021-22.

Last season, Shoudy led all Bulldog defensemen with 21 points and a had a team-high 17 assists while appearing in all 36 games on the blueline for Ferris State. He sent 83 shots on goal, good for second most of any Bulldog skater.

Shoudy opened the 2023-24 season with four assists in FSU's home series against Miami (Ohio) when the Bulldogs captured a split to being their year. He was honored as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Defenseman of the Week for his performance, an award he would go on to win a total of three times throughout the season.

While setting career-bests in both points and assists, Shoudy recorded multiple points in four games last year, including two games where he scored three points. He was also the CCHA Defenseman of the Month for Dec., recording a 2-4-6 line in seven games during that stretch.

A staple of both the power play and penalty kill units, Shoudy has demonstrated impressive offensive ability through his first two years with Ferris State on top of strong defensive play as well. He also exemplified stellar work in the classroom as he was named to the 2023-24 CCHA Scholar Athlete-Team (given to those with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher).

Before coming to Ferris State, Shoudy played for Cedar Rapids in the United States Hockey League (USHL) in 2021-22. He appeared in 62 games, scoring 33 points (25 assists) for the RoughRiders. He also spent time with the Austin Bruins (North American Hockey League) and Sioux City Musketeers (USHL) in his junior hockey career.

Ferris State's 2023-24 season was ended by Bemidji State University in the CCHA Tournament Quarterfinals March 9. With their sights now set on the 2024-25 season, the Bulldogs will turn their focus to preparing for next year with Shoudy as team captain.
