Men's Tennis Takes Part In ITA Regional Event

Midland, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team took part in the 2009 Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championships on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 25-26) in Midland, Mich.

Northwood University played host to one of the 80 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships scheduled to be played across the country in all divisions of college play (NCAA-I, II, III and NAIA) over the last three weeks of September. 

The prestigious tournament featured the top NCAA Division II schools in the region. The singles and doubles champions from this weekend's tournament advance to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Championships in October.

Sixty-four singles player and 32 doubles teams took part in the tournament. Play was held at both the Gerstacker Courts and the Midland Community Tennis Center.

Four different Bulldog players took part in the event and competed in both singles and doubles competition.

Senior Kyle Revall posted a 2-1 overall record and reached the round of 16 in the event while senior Ahmet Demir along with sophomores Justin Hermes and Jack Swan all posted 1-1 marks.  Demir was the 11th-seeded player entering the tournament.

In double play, the tandem of Hermes and Swan won their first match before bowing out of the competition while Demir and Revall lost their opening-round encounter.

The Bulldogs are tentatively slated to open dual play for the 2009-10 season by visiting Aquinas on Feb. 25 for a 2 p.m. (ET) non-league match in Grand Rapids, Mich.
