Men's Tennis Remains Unbeaten In The GLIAC

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team picked up its second victory in as many days as the Bulldogs remained unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with an 8-1 triumph over Michigan Tech on Sunday (March 21).

FSU picked up the win at its own Racquet and Fitness Center by taking two of the three doubles flights along with a straight-set sweep of all six singles positions.

Michigan Tech managed its lone victory of the day at number two doubles where David Heuer and Anders Sandholm upset the region's ninth-ranked tandem pairing of FSU's Jack Swan and Justin Hermes by a 8-6 score.

Ferris, however, grabbed wins in both the first and third spots in taking a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.  The combination of Kyle Revall and Steven Roberts were 8-3 winners at number one doubles with Ahmet Demir and Arin Enge recording an 8-1 triumph at the bottom doubles position.

In singles competition, the Bulldogs posted decisive wins at all six flights.  Revall was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at the top spot followed by Demir at the second position by a 6-3, 7-5 count.  Swan came back to post a 6-3, 6-3 victory at number three singles with Roberts earning a 6-3, 6-1 win at the fourth spot.  Finally, Hermes and Tyler Marengo rounded out the lineup by scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively.

Ferris State remained unbeaten in GLIAC play with a 2-0 mark as the Bulldogs also evened their record at 5-5 overall this season.  Meanwhile, the Huskies fell to 6-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play with the setback.

The Bulldogs are ranked 44th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II National Rankings along with fourth in the Midwest Region.

FSU concludes a three-match homestand by hosting Albion in non-league play on Tuesday, March 23, at the Racquet and Fitness Center.  Match time is set for 3 p.m. (EDT).
