Men's Tennis Finishes Third In GLIAC Tourney

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad placed third in the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament with a win over rival Grand Valley State on Sunday (April 17).

The fourth-seeded Bulldogs claimed the third-place match by a 5-1 count over number three seed GVSU with the victory at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

FSU swept the three doubles matches against the Lakers and then proceeded to win two of the first three completed singles flights en route to the win.

Both Kyle  Revall and Tyler Marengo were double winners on the day for the Bulldogs as both added straight-set singles triumphs in addition to being part of a winning doubles tandem.

Ferris State wrapped up the GLIAC Tournament with a 2-1 overall record after an opening-round win over Michigan Tech on Friday (April 15) followed by a semifinal loss to eventual champion Northwood on Saturday (April 16).

Sunday's win was also an important regional one for FSU as the Bulldogs are currently ranked sixth and GVSU ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II Midwest Regional Rankings.  The top six teams in the region will earn berths into the NCAA-II Tournament when the official announcement is made the last week of April.

The Bulldogs presently own a 14-8 overall mark and are listed 41st nationally in the ITA National Rankings.  GVSU dropped to 14-12 with the setback.
