Men's Tennis Tops GVSU In League Finale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad kept its strong play going on Thursday (April 12) as the Bulldogs pulled out a hard-fought 5-4 win over West Michigan rival Grand Valley State in Allendale.

The Bulldogs improved to 13-6 overall and wrapped up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season action with an 8-1 conference mark after the key regional and league triumph.  GVSU dropped to 10-12 overall and 6-3 in the GLIAC.

FSU entered the match ranked 46th nationally along with sixth in the region with the Lakers listed 10th in the latest regional poll.

Ferris State built a 2-1 advantage after doubles play with wins at the first and third spots in the lineup.  FSU then split the six singles flights to earn the victory.  The three Bulldog singles triumphs came at the final three positions in the lineup.

Tyler Marengo was a double-winner for the Bulldogs versus Grand Valley State in the road encounter.

FSU will take part in the 2012 GLIAC Tournament currently scheduled for April 20-22 in Midland, Mich.
