Men's Tennis Season Ends In NCAA Tournament

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad had its impressive postseason run come to an end on Tuesday (May 1) as the Bulldogs suffered a 5-0 setback to nationally 20th-ranked Drury (Mo.) in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional title match at Springfield, Mo.

The Bulldogs concluded the year with a 17-7 overall record after winning the 2012 GLIAC Tournament Championship and reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.

The Bulldogs beat nationally 37th-ranked Lewis (Ill.) on Monday (April 30) in the first round of one of two Midwest Regional tournaments before falling to the host and top-seeded Panthers with a berth into the NCAA-II Sweet Sixteen on the line.

Drury gained control early by claiming all three doubles flights.  In singles competition, the Panthers won the first two completed flights at the number two and four spots to secure the victory.

The Panthers moved to 18-3 overall this season with the win and will next face Augusta State (Ga.) in the Sweet Sixteen on May 16 in Louisville, Ky.

Ferris State was making its 17th overall NCAA-II Tournament appearance this campaign and the program's first berth since the 2010 season under head coach Alex Palladino.
