Ferris State Men's Tennis Completes Weekend League Road Sweep With Sunday Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team completed a weekend road sweep in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play as the Bulldogs notched a 5-4 win over Michigan Tech on Sunday (March 23) in league action at Houghton, Mich.

The Bulldogs, who beat Lake Superior State by the same score on Saturday in Sault Ste. Marie, won only one of three doubles flights against the Huskies, but came back to capture four of the six singles spots to record the win at the Gates Tennis Center.

With the victory and the weekend sweep in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the Bulldogs moved to 4-11 overall and 3-2 in league action. MTU dropped to 8-4 on the year and is now also 3-2 in the GLIAC.

The Bulldogs' number two doubles tandem of Otto Keresztes and Laurent Mailloux recorded an 8-6 win. However, MTU scored an 8-6 win at the top flight along with a 8-4 triumph at the third position to grab a 2-1 lead heading into the singles round.

In singles play, both Keresztes and Mailloux pulled out victories at the third and fourth spots, respectively. Meanwhile, Jose Calero was a straight-set winner at five singles and Laurent Galarneau recorded a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the top spot in the lineup. MTU's lone wins in singles competition came at the second and sixth flights.

Ferris State hits the road Tuesday (March 25) for a non-league road match at NCAA Division I Western Michigan with match time set for 1 p.m. (ET). FSU then returns home to host Lake Erie, Walsh and Malone as part of a busy weekend in league play at home on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (March 27-29).
