Men's Tennis Takes Part In Fall Regional Championships In Indy

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad sent competitors to the 2014 United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championships over the weekend (Sept. 19-21) in Indianapolis.

Action took place at Center Grove High School and included participants from numerous schools in the Midwest Region.

In the "A" singles division, FSU standout Laurent Galarneau won his first three matches to advance to the semifinals before falling to Lewis' Erik Aunapuu, who eventually advanced to the singles title match.

FSU senior Aaron Dial also competed in the "A" division. He dropped his opening match before eventually bouncing back to win two contests and reach the consolation quarterfinals. Both Tyler Bridges and Zachary Grabovic also participated in the top singles division, but both were eliminated after dropping their first two matches.

Ferris State's Raleigh Grossbaum pulled off a pair of victories in the "B" singles division and reached the quarterfinals before bowing out. Meanwhile, Renan Baldi also took part in the "B" division and lost his opening match before bounching back to win two tilts to reach the consolation semifinals. His stretch in the consolation portion included a three-set victory in the quarterfinals.

The tandem of Galarneau and Dial paired up for action in the "A" doubles division, but lost their only match of the tournament.

Finally, Ferris State had two doubles teams in the "B" division to wrap up the event. Grabovic and Bridges won their first three contests to reach the "B" final, but fell to Grand Valley State's Jack Heiniger and Bryan Hodges in the championship match. The grouping of Baldi and Grossbaum lost their lone doubles contest.

The Bulldogs are slated to take part in the Grand Valley State Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3-4, in Allendale.
