Ferris State Suffers Close Loss To #26 Indy In Regional Men's Tennis Showdown

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad had its four-match win streak snapped on Saturday (Feb. 28) as the Bulldogs dropped a hard-fought and close 5-4 decision against nationally 26th-ranked Indianapolis at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.

The Greyhounds took a 2-1 lead after the doubles round and then maanged to split the six singles flights against the Bulldogs to earn the win. 

The match featured two of the top teams in the region with Indianapolis ranked third and the Bulldogs eighth in the Midwest Region. 

Ferris State fell to 4-2 overall this year with the setback while the Greyhounds moved to 5-2 on the year with the road triumph.

Three of the six singles matches went to three sets with the Bulldogs winning two of them, including a victory from Laurent Galarneau at the number one flight. FSU's Roger Hernandez Pena was also a winner at the third spot with Tyler Bridges picking up a win at fourth singles to remain unbeaten on the year. 

In doubles play, the Bulldogs lone victory came at the second position in the lineup where Vasil Surduk and Aaron Dial paired up for an 8-2 win.

Ferris State next opens its annual spring trip by facing Eckerd (Fla.) on Sunday, March 8, in non-league play at St. Petersburg, Fla. The match begins at 11 a.m. (ET). Overall, the Bulldogs will play a total of five matches in Florida during FSU's spring break.
