Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team received significant court time on Monday (March 9) as the Bulldogs played a pair of dual matches in Florida on their annual spring trip.
Ferris State opened the day's action with a decisive 7-2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas in non-league play during the morning hours in Tampa before falling to NCAA Division I Northern Illinois by a 4-0 score in evening action in Lakeland.
In the first match of the day against St. Thomas Aquinas, the Bulldogs swept the doubles round with the top two tandems earning wins of 8-0 at the number one spot and 8-1 at the second flight, respectively.
Then, in singles play, Ferris State posted wins at the top two positions and the bottom two spots in the lineup. St. Thomas Aquinas' lone wins came at third and fourth singles as FSU picked up the win.
Following the morning match, the Bulldogs ventured to Lakeland to face Northern Illinois. The D1 Huskies won the second and third flights in the lineup during doubles play with the top spot going unfinished.
In singles action, Northern Illinois took the match by winning and fourth and fifth singles. The rest of the encounters were also unfinished as the match came to a close.
Ferris State, now 6-3 overall this year, continues action in the Sunshine State against Rollins (Fla.) on Tuesday in Winter Park at 3:30 p.m. (ET). FSU then faces Florida Southern on Thursday (May 12) in its final match of the spring break trip.
