Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis teams both took on one of the nation's top teams in action Tuesday (March 10) with both squads falling to Rollins by identical 8-1 scores in Winter Park, Fla.
The two matches took place in the Sunshine State and the hosts managed to take both matches against the Bulldogs.
Rollins entered the two contests ranked ninth in the nation on the women's side and 13th on the men's side.
In the women's contest, the Florida school opened play with a sweep of the doubles round over Ferris State and then claimed five of the six singles flights against the Bullogs. FSU's lone victory in women's competition came from ShawneeAnn Brelsford at the number two flight in the singles lineup.
On the men's side, Rollins also earned the sweep in doubles by taking all three flights against the Bulldogs. They then also won five of the six singles spots in men's action with FSU's only win coming at the number three flight where Tyler Bridges was a three-set winner over the nation's 38th-ranked player in Robin Marchione.
FSU dropped to 15-8 overall in women's action this year along with 6-4 in men's play as the Bulldogs continued their annual spring break trip.
The Bulldog women's team is back in action on Wednesday (March 11) with a neutral site tilt against regional foe Southern Indiana in Cape Canaveral (Fla.) beginning at 11 a.m. (ET). FSU then visits Florida Southern on Thursday (March 12) to close the trip with a 2 p.m. (ET) contest.
The FSU men's squad will not play on Wednesday, but will also face Florida Southern on Thursday at the Warden Tennis Center. Action gets underway at 2 p.m. (ET).
