Ferris State Men's Tennis Moves One Step Closer To GLIAC Title With Victory In Home Finale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team took another important step in its quest to secure the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship as the Bulldogs rolled past Wayne State by an 8-1 score in their regular-season home finale on Sunday (April 12) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs remained unbeaten in league play at 7-0 on the year with the triumph over the Warriors, which came on the heels of FSU's impressive 6-3 win over 20-time defending league champion Northwood on Thursday. FSU is now 14-5 overall this season and has won its last seven outings in a row to date.

Ferris State honored its two seniors, Laurent Galarneau and Aaron Dial, during their final home matches and the duo helped key the Bulldogs victory. They teamed up for an 8-3 win at the number one doubles flight as FSU swept the doubles round in building an early 3-0 lead against Wayne State.

Then, in singles play, Galarneau claimed a victory at the number one flight in straight-sets with Dial picking up a 6-3, 6-3 win at five singles as both finished the day unbeaten. Ferris State won the top five singles positions in the lineup with WSU's lone victory on the day coming at six singles.

In all, Ferris State picked up each of its five singles wins in straight-sets, including two in impressive fashion by 6-0, 6-0 scores. The closest doubles match of the three came at the second flight with FSU's Vasil Surduk and Tyler Bridges winning by an 8-6 score.

Wayne State fell to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in conference action with the loss to the Bulldogs.

Ferris State, ranked 47th nationally and fifth in the Midwest Region in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rankings, has two conference matches remaining in the regular-season. FSU will visit Walsh on Saturday (April 18) for a 10 a.m. (ET) tilt before facing Ohio Dominican on Sunday (April 19) in Ohio. The Bulldogs can win the league's regular-season title outright by winning both contests.
