Ferris State Clinches At Least Share Of GLIAC Championship With Saturday Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad clinched at least a share of the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular-Season Championship as the Bulldogs beat Walsh 9-0 to open a weekend trip to Ohio on Saturday (April 18) in Canton.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 15-5 overall and remained perfect at 8-0 in the GLIAC this season. FSU can claim the outright league title by beating Ohio Dominican in the final regular-season contest on Sunday (April 19) in Columbus.

Ferris State won all three doubles matches in decisive fashion and then swept the singles round in topping the Cavaliers. All six singles flights were won in straight-sets by the Bulldogs.

FSU, which was ranked 47th nationally and fifth in the Midwest Region in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rankings, will square off against ODU on Sunday with match time set for 10 a.m. (ET). It will represent Ohio Dominican's last-ever collegiate match as the program is being discontinued at the end of the season.

With a win, the Bulldogs can claim the school's first outright crown since 1994. FSU is presently one match in front of Grand Valley State with one match to go. Prior to this year, FSU had not won a league regular-season title since sharing the crown with Northwood in 1999.
